Verification

What "verified pro" means — and how to become one.

What does the green "Verified" tick mean?

Every provider on Near-U has been through a four-step check before they can take their first booking:

  1. Government ID — NIN, driver's licence, voter's card, or international passport. Name + photo cross-checked against the account.
  2. Address or workshop — for shop-based trades (mechanics, tailors, salons) a field agent visits in person. For mobile-only trades (plumbers, electricians, drivers) we confirm a utility bill + phone OTP from a Nigerian SIM active for at least 90 days.
  3. Skills — three reference checks for general trades; trade certifications for specialists (electricians, gas fitters, etc).
  4. Background screening — basic check for prior dispute history; extended check for high-trust categories (nannies, home nurses, live-in housekeepers).

We reject roughly one in three applications. The green tick means the person passed all four layers.

How long does verification take?

Most providers are verified within 24 hours of submitting their documents. Complex cases (multi-state operations, specialist trades, company accounts with CAC documents) can take up to 48 hours.

You'll get an SMS and email the moment we approve — or reject with feedback on what to fix.

I was rejected. What should I do?

You'll see the exact reason at the top of your provider profile page. Common reasons:

  • Selfie is too blurry or doesn't match the ID photo.
  • The name on your account doesn't match the name on your ID.
  • The ID document is expired.
  • Workshop address couldn't be verified.

Fix the issue, then click the Resubmit for verification button on your profile. We usually re-review within 24 hours.

We use cookies to make Near-U work

Some are essential (your login, your basket of bookings). Others — analytics and marketing — only run if you say yes. Read our privacy policy for the full story.

Privacy Preference Center

When you visit Near-U, we may store small files (cookies) on your device. Some are needed to make the site work — like keeping you signed in. Others are optional and help us understand what's working or show you Near-U on other sites. You decide which optional ones run, and you can change your mind any time from the footer of any page.

Manage your preferences

These cookies are required for Near-U to work. They keep you signed in, hold your CSRF security token, remember the consent choice you're making right now, and let the site serve pages in the right language. The site can't run without them, so they can't be switched off.

Remember the small things that make the site feel like yours — your shared GPS location for distance checks, the tab you last opened in your account page, recent search queries, and which providers you've viewed. The site still works without these, but you'll have to share your location again on every visit.

Help us see how Near-U is being used — which pages people visit, which searches succeed, where errors happen. All data is anonymous and aggregated. We use this to fix bugs and improve flows that confuse people. Currently includes: Google Analytics (when enabled).

Let us show you Near-U adverts on other sites (Facebook, Instagram, Google) and measure whether those adverts brought you back. We may also use these to retarget you if you started a booking but didn't finish. Currently includes: Meta Pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking (when enabled).

Read our privacy policy for more on what we collect and why.
